Inspiration

While media does have many negative influences, it also has positive uses for example this video.  Recently, I have tried finding media clips, articles and experiences that uplift me. This story of these two brothers inspired me to be a better person.  To get a glimpse of everything that the Connor had sacrificed for his younger brother, Cayden was so encouraging to me.  After watching this I vowed to be a better sister, daughter and friend to those around me.  I do not have near as many challenges as this family and yet they do so much for each other and for others.  I hope to one day be as charitable as Connor Long

Window looking in

Last Tuesday I watched the BYU forum where a professor from Kansas City talked about how we find out identity in life.  One comment struck me deeply regarding the media in our lives.  He said that today in our society we use media to numb our current life.  We become so interested in the lives of the characters we watch and forget to get out and LIVE OUR OWN LIFE!  This professor told story after story about his adventures traveling around the world.  He talked about the real life people he met and the lessons he learned from them.  As he was talking I realized that I wanted to have stories like theses in my life.  I also realized that I watch adventures on television and on movies as a substitute for my own personal adventures.  Overall, do not let the media become a substitute for your own personal experiences. Life is for living not for mindlessly watching.

Like Wildfire!

Oh the weather in Provo today.  Why couldn't BYU have been built in California?  Rain, ice and snow are not a good combination on BYU Campus.  It was a hazard zone yet very entertaining for us that did not fall.  I think that I saw 15 people total today that fell.    Within a few hours of getting home I found multiple facebook videos already posted about the crazy happenings at BYU.  These videos are worth watching especially the first one!  Media spreads fast!

REVENGE

I am a Netflix junkie!  I have been trying to find a new series to start watching and I have finally found it!  My mother called me the other day and told me how she is hooked on the tv series Revenge.  She has explained to me how she and my father had stayed up till 1 am watching the first 9 episodes.  My mother does not share a love for TV like me so I knew that I had to watch it.  It did not disappoint!  The show is full of drama, action and a twisted love story.  The show follows Emily Thorne whose seeking revenge for her father who was framed for a terrorist act he did not commit.  If you need a little excitement in your life I highly recommend REVENGE!

ALL THE WORLD'S A STAGE

"All the World's a Stage" - William Shakespeare

I don't think that this quote has ever really been understood until Youtube surfaced and changed the definition of a singer, actress, comedian etc.  In today's world anyone can be famous just by posting one video.  I along with many others am fascinated by the millions of videos posted daily on Youtube.  Lately, I have been especially into covers done by random artists.  I have shared a few of my favorite cover youtube videos.  The first video is done by Boyce Avenue which has always been one of my favorites on Youtube.  The second one is actually done by my roommates friends from South Dakota.  They are called Paradise Fears and do an amazing mash up of Taylor Swift's new album RED.

Acca Believe It

This week I watched Pitch Perfect for the third time.  This movie is so funny!  I have realized that the media is a good outlet for laughter.  Unfortunately with comedy movies you have to watch the good with the bad.  The majority of the Pitch Perfect is filled with good music and hilarious jokes yet there were some inappropriate parts.  The first two times I watched the movie I did not recognize how many unnecessary bad parts there were.  With the assignment from my class to analyze the media I watched, I realized how desensitized I have become to the media

RESTART OF MY BLOG

I am a Family Studies Student at Brigham Young University.  In my Media, Family and Human Development class we are challenged to blog twice a week about how media influences our lives.  So, I am going to restart my blog.
